Niger : le gouvernement adopte un projet de décret pour encadrer les correspondants de presse étrangers
On September 10, 2026, the Nigerien government adopted a draft decree setting out the conditions for the exercise of press correspondents and the accreditation of foreign media in Niger.
The authorities explain this initiative by the need to fill a legal void, in a context marked by the digital transformation of media, the internationalization of information flows and the risks linked to disinformation.
The National Communication Observatory (ONC), responsible for media regulation, will notably have to give an opinion on accreditation requests and issue specific professional cards.
The system aims to reconcile freedom of the press, editorial responsibility, legal certainty and preservation of public order.
