Niger : Le gouvernement supprime les pensions de retraite pour les anciens députés
In Niger, the Council of Ministers, on Friday, October 9th, adopted a draft ordinance repealing Law No. 2003-062 of December 17, 2003, which established and regulated a parliamentary pension scheme in the country. In short, there will no longer be pension payments for former Nigerien parliamentarians.
"Streamlining government spending"
"Former members of parliament who have received retirement pensions for having paid the full required contribution lose their right to said pension and those who have not paid the full required contributions and who have never received a pension will be reimbursed," the statement from the Council of Ministers indicates.
The elimination of retirement pensions for former members of parliament "aims to rationalize state expenses," explains the Nigerien executive.
