Nouveau bilan d'une attaque jihadiste au Mali: au moins 100 militaires tués (sources concordantes)
At least 100 Malian soldiers and five Russian paramilitaries from Africa Corps were killed on September 10 in a large-scale jihadist attack on the Dioura military camp, according to military, security and local sources in a new toll given to AFP on Friday.
"The assault resulted in a tragedy of unprecedented scale. More than 100 soldiers were killed, including two officers," a security source in Mopti, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the context, told AFP. An officer from the army's general staff and a local elected official also confirmed this figure to AFP, while an initial report indicated at least 50 soldiers killed.
This upwardly revised death toll makes this attack, claimed by the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM), affiliated with Al-Qaeda, one of the deadliest suffered by the Malian army since the beginning of the conflict that has ravaged the West African country for about fifteen years.
