Ouganda : Intronisé à 3 ans, un roi devenu célèbre grâce au Guinness World Records, meurt d’un cancer à 34 ans
Sad news for the Kingdom of Tooro in Uganda. Its sovereign, King Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, died on Thursday, August 27, 2026, from an aggressive cancer while receiving medical treatment in the United States. He was 34 years old.
The young monarch has a unique story. He was crowned in 1995 at the age of three after the death of his father from a heart attack. This made him the youngest monarch in the world, earning him a place in the Guinness World Records.
"How unfair life is! An orphan so young, he died so young."
His passing deeply affected Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni. "Dear fellow Ugandans, and especially the Bazzukulu, it is with profound sadness that, on behalf of all Ugandans, Maama Janet, and myself, I offer our sincerest condolences to the royal family of Tooro and to all Ugandans, following the passing of the Muzzukulu, His Highness Oyo, King of Tooro, at the young age of 34. How unfair life is! Orphaned so young, he died so young," the veteran leader declared.
Oyo leaves behind a crown prince
He then paid tribute to the memory of the sovereign who, "despite his short life, collaborated effectively with central and local authorities for the development of Tooro."
Oyo Rukidi IV will be given a state funeral and three days of national mourning. He leaves behind a crown prince.
