Agricultural campaign and Tabaski 2026: President Diomaye Faye's directives to Ousmane Sonko and Mabouba Diagne

The President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, addressed the preparation of the 2026 agricultural campaign during the Council of Ministers meeting held this Wednesday, April 15, at the Presidential Palace.

According to the press release received, he mentioned his visit to the 26th edition of the International Fair of Agriculture and Animal Resources (FIARA) 2026 before recalling the paramount importance he attaches to the vital sectors of agriculture and livestock.

"After congratulating the organizers, he asked the government to strengthen its support for this major sub-regional and continental event, reminding them that the modernization and development of the agricultural sector are essential to guarantee food sovereignty and the well-being of the population," it was learned.

As the rainy season approaches, the Head of State instructed the Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Livestock, Mabouba Diagne, as well as the Secretary of State for Cooperatives and Peasant Support, to take all necessary measures, under the supervision of the Prime Minister, to ensure the timely provision of seeds, inputs, agricultural equipment and financing for producers and other operators.

Furthermore, he asked the Prime Minister and Mabouba Diagne to ensure that the draft law on agro-sylvo-pastoral and fisheries policy and the draft decree implementing the Pastoral Code are adopted by the Council of Ministers before the end of May 2026.

In the wake of this, Bassirou Diomaye Faye instructed the government to ensure a proper supply of sheep to the national market, in anticipation of the Tabaski festival.
