La "DéSonkorisation" du pouvoir en continu : de Pastef à "Passe-ton-fauteuil"
The ongoing "De-Sonkorization" of power: from Pastef to "Pass-your-chair"
In politics, the seats have a strange ailment: they suddenly develop an allergy to their occupants. Since the split at the top of the state, the "de-Sonkorization" of the administration is progressing at the pace of a cabinet meeting. Yesterday, oaths were taken. Today, office keys are handed over. Tomorrow, perhaps even badges will be returned with a smile... and a carefully posted "Alhamdulillah" on Facebook, as if being fired had become an act of administrative piety.
Ousmane Sonko had, however, advised his supporters not to abandon ship if they wished. This recommendation was followed to the letter.
So Bassirou Diomaye Faye himself took it upon himself to find them a way out. Presidential service, guaranteed departure.
As the launch of his party approaches, the head of state discovers an old law of Senegalese politics: a party is rarely born in an empty room. It needs activists, leaders... and above all, seats to be filled. The appointments then become an election campaign before the official start.
Meanwhile, another phenomenon is amusing observers: the accelerated "Macky-ization" of the corridors of power. Former members of Benno's inner circle are now finding themselves back in the same familiar circles they knew almost by heart. It just goes to show that, in politics, revolving doors truly live up to their name.
And then there's that photo with Macky Sall at the Palace. In the very recent past, some dreamed of the High Court of Justice; today, they're practically rolling out the red carpet.
Ultimately, in Senegal, yesterday's enemies can perfectly well become tomorrow's honored visitors, in the name of diplomacy and its accompanying protocols. The Republic, for its part, changes its cast... but the setting remains remarkably the same.
