Accès universel à l’électricité : 998 milliards de FCFA d’engagements annoncés
Senegal has registered 998 billion FCFA in commitments during the Round Table of Partners for the Acceleration of Universal Access to Electricity, held this Tuesday, October 6, 2026. The announcement was made through a press release from the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum published today.
Of this amount, 181 billion FCFA was pledged by technical and financial partners "for new electrification projects." The private sector, for its part, has committed 817 billion FCFA.
This mobilization comes as the ministry estimates that nearly 400 billion FCFA is needed to provide coverage to the remaining unelectrified areas. According to the data provided, 6,471 localities still need to be covered, representing "nearly one million Senegalese."
Co-chaired by the Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Dr. El Hadji Abdourahmane Diouf, and the Minister of Economy, Finance and Planning, Cheikh Diba, the meeting constitutes "a decisive step in strengthening the mobilization of financing and partnerships." The ministry believes that "the objective has been largely exceeded."
Currently, Senegal has 25,725 localities, of which 12,683 are already electrified and 6,571 are covered by ongoing projects. According to the press release, the national electricity access rate was 86.2% by the end of 2024.
