Africa Energy Week : le Sénégal cherche 348 milliards FCFA pour...
Senegal is seeking nearly 348 billion CFA francs to finance three segments of its future national gas pipeline network. Presented to investors at Africa Energy Week in Cape Town, South Africa, these projects were detailed by Pape Momar Lô, Director General of the Senegalese Gas Network (RGS), reports Le Quotidien. Construction is expected to begin in 2027, with commissioning planned for 2029.
Estimated at over 144 billion, the Green segment will extend over 110 kilometers and will transport excess gas from the Grand Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) project to other branches of the network. The Blue segment, valued at 118.07 billion for 100 kilometers, will supply six power plants and six industrial sites. The Orange segment, estimated at 85.27 billion over 45 kilometers, will serve six industries and one power plant. A total of 16.40 billion is also allocated to compensate those affected by the construction work.
According to the Avenir Communication group's daily newspaper, these three sections are part of a larger program spanning nearly 400 kilometers, divided into five segments, with a total estimated cost of 650 billion. The network is intended to connect the country's main gas production sources, including GTA, Yakaar-Teranga, and Sangomar, to power plants and industrial facilities.
Through this infrastructure, Senegal aims to increase the value of its gas on the domestic market, reduce its reliance on imported fuels for electricity generation, and offer more competitive energy to industrial users. The RGS (Radio Gas Network) is therefore counting on this network to help reduce the country's energy dependence and better control electricity costs.
