Entretien Seneweb : Yankhoba Diémé accuse Ousmane Sonko de « victimisation » contre Diomaye Faye
In an interview with Seneweb , Minister Yankhoba Diémé spoke at length about the tensions between President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and former Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko. He denounced what he called a " blatant victimhood " strategy and strongly criticized certain positions taken by the former head of government. According to the minister, " this narcissistic streak and the accumulation of misdeeds by one person ultimately make the victim appear to be the perpetrator ." In his view, this strategy is deliberately aimed at turning public opinion against the head of state.
Addressing the issue of compensation for former detainees, Yankhoba Diémé rejected accusations that President Diomaye Faye was responsible for the delays. " It has been claimed that if the compensation has not been paid, it is because of President Diomaye. This is false. The president gave clear instructions to the Prime Minister and the Minister for Family Affairs during a Council of Ministers meeting ," he maintained.
He also criticized the communication surrounding Ousmane Sonko's salary donation: " It was reported that the leader offered his salary of four million CFA francs to the victims to compensate for the compensation. But this communication should not obscure the State's responsibilities in this matter. " The minister then addressed the Prime Minister's office's political funds: " It was in the National Assembly that I learned the Prime Minister had 1.77 billion CFA francs in political funds at his disposal. With such an amount, it would have been possible to compensate a significant number of victims ," he stated, presenting several financial simulations to illustrate his point.
Regarding the recent constitutional revision, Yankhoba Diémé accused certain actors of having distorted the spirit of the dialogue desired by the President of the Republic. " The President had called on everyone to engage in dialogue, but there was a real parliamentary deception ," he denounced.
Finally responding to criticism of former President Macky Sall's presence in Senegal, he defended Bassirou Diomaye Faye's republican stance: " Some say the president has changed because he allows Macky Sall to move around freely with police and gendarmerie protection. However, the head of state is simply doing his job. The former president is not the subject of any accusation or legal proceedings ," he explained.
Yankhoba Diémé reiterated that under Senegalese law, a former president can only be prosecuted under strictly defined conditions: “ These agitated young people need to understand that only members of parliament can initiate proceedings for high treason. You can't accuse people without foundation and then present yourselves as heroes. ” Finally, the minister reaffirmed that if the former head of state were to provide the necessary clarifications on certain matters, there would be no obstacle to President Diomaye Faye receiving him or engaging in dialogue with him within the framework of the Republic.
