Assainissement des eaux pluviales à Tivaouane : Un membre du comité de suivi réclame la reprise immédiate des chantiers
In November 2025, a new structural program for stormwater drainage was officially launched in Tivaouane by the Minister of Water and Sanitation, in the presence of dignitaries from the family of Cheikhal Seydi El-Hadji Malick Sy (RTA) and various stakeholders.
To ensure the monitoring of operations, a dedicated committee has been set up under the leadership of the prefect of the department, including the mayor, the relevant technical services, the winning company, the concessionaires as well as the structures of the religious community, notably Coskas and the Ajana framework.
The project aimed to address almost all the low-lying areas and flood zones in the municipality of Tivaouane. Initially scheduled to last eight months, the work was to be completed by the end of July 2026. "Due to both internal and external factors, the work could not be delivered on time," laments Moulaye Abdou Aziz Diop, grandson of Mame Maodo and an active member of religious civil society.
He recalls that, with the approach of Gamou, specifically on August 14, 2026, the construction site was temporarily suspended to allow the company to connect the sections already completed, to clean up the public roads and to hand over the land to other concessionaires, such as Sen'Eau, Senelec and Ageroute, in order to carry out the connections necessary for the smooth running of the great ziara.
“As an informed citizen and member of the monitoring committee, I can attest to the highly positive impact of the work already completed during the last Gamou, while awaiting the finalization of the drainage outlets,” the religious leader emphasized. He then issued a timely warning: “The next Gamou is scheduled for mid-August 2027, which is less than nine months away.”
Addressing the financial aspect, El-Hadji Malick Sy's grandson believes it is urgent for the State to expedite the payment of invoices and arrears owed to the Kelimane company, which pre-financed a large portion of the construction projects. According to him, the public authorities should not wait for the traditional preparatory meetings (CDD and CRD) in May or June to improvise emergency measures.
He concluded by relaying a strong citizen demand for the immediate resumption, delivery and final acceptance of the stormwater drainage works, an essential prerequisite for launching the future wastewater drainage program.
