Gambia River: Water levels are generally stable, with no flood alerts in the Kédougou basin.

The hydrological situation in the Gambia River basin remains reassuring at the beginning of August. According to the daily hydrological bulletin published this Tuesday by the Tambacounda-Kédougou Water Resources Brigade, all monitoring stations remain on green alert, indicating that no particular risk of flooding is currently observed.

However, readings taken at 8 a.m. show contrasting trends across different stations. In Kédougou, the river level stood at 2.16 meters, a drop of 22 centimeters in twenty-four hours. This level remains well below the alert level set at 7 meters, with a safety margin of 4.84 meters.

The same trend was observed in Diaguiri, where the water level receded by 25 centimeters to reach 3.11 meters, remaining nearly 9 meters below the alert level. A 9-centimeter drop was also recorded in Mako, while Thiokoye saw a slight decrease of 6 centimeters.

Conversely, some stations are recording a rise in water levels. This is the case in Simenti, where the river level has risen by 36 centimeters to reach 3.45 meters, as well as in Goumbayel, which has recorded a moderate rise of 2 centimeters. Despite these increases, the levels remain well below the alert thresholds.

The bulletin also highlights that some data, particularly from the Diaguiri and Niokolo Koba stations, were not transmitted for this day, without this calling into question the overall assessment of the hydrological situation.

Overall, the hydrological services believe the Gambia River basin remains under control. A green alert level is maintained at all monitored stations, indicating the absence of an immediate flood threat, although daily monitoring remains essential during the rainy season.
