Diacksao: Alcohol, drugs, and terror at home: a 26-year-old son jailed after his mother filed a complaint

A mother at her wit's end. A son who admits to his insults and outbursts of anger. In Diacksao, in the Diamaguène Sicap Mbao district, the family conflict ended up in court. Mr. Seck, 26, a trainee driver, was brought before the Pikine-Guédiawaye prosecutor's office yesterday. He was subsequently remanded in custody on charges of violence against a parent, harassment, and insults.

It all started with a complaint from his mother, L. Ndiaye. In her statement, this widow, who claims to have raised her three children alone since her husband's death, describes a daily life that has become unbearable. For several years, her eldest son's behavior has been making her life a living hell.

She accuses him of regularly consuming alcohol and marijuana, of hurling insults, and of repeatedly causing trouble. "When he's drunk, he insults me and terrorizes the house," she told investigators. The mother says she no longer feels safe at home and claims to be subjected to humiliation even by neighbors.

Arrested on the night of November 1st to 2nd, around 11 p.m., in a state of obvious public drunkenness, Mr. Seck was first taken to the police station of Diamaguène Sicap Mbao.

When questioned by investigators, the young man did not deny the insults. He admitted to losing his temper following a family argument. The altercation stemmed from a pair of glasses he had entrusted to his 8-year-old niece. When he returned home and couldn't find them, he lashed out at his mother.

Mr. Seck also admits to using alcohol and drugs for the past nine years. He claims that his outbursts of anger sometimes lead him to misbehave towards his mother. He maintains that she regularly calls him a drunk and a drug addict.

These defense arguments did not prevent his arraignment. Following his appearance before the Pikine-Guédiawaye prosecutor's office, he was remanded in custody. He is to appear before the court for flagrant offenses.
