Marché malien de Dakar : 4 femmes filmées en train de voler des tissus, la BR de Faidherbe démantèle le réseau de la sous-région
The Dakar Research Brigade (BR) has dismantled a suspected fabric theft ring operating in Dakar's Malian market. Two women from the sub-region were arrested and taken into custody for conspiracy and theft. Two other accomplices are actively being sought.
It all began on May 15, 2026, when four women entered several shops in the Malian market, located on Rue Raffenel x Escarfait, under the pretext of making purchases. Taking advantage of the crowds, they discreetly made off with several rolls of valuable fabric.
One of the victimized shopkeepers, MC, after noticing irregularities, reviewed the CCTV footage from his store. The recordings clearly identified the perpetrators stealing about fifteen ribbons of "Getzner perlage" fabric, representing an estimated loss of 2 million CFA francs, according to Seneweb sources.
Five days of surveillance in Colobane
Upon receiving the complaint, the Dakar Criminal Investigation Brigade (BR) immediately opened an investigation. Thanks to thorough analysis of video footage and on-the-ground surveillance, a five-day surveillance operation was conducted in the Colobane area, particularly at bus stations serving countries in the sub-region.
Two suspects arrested, two others on the run
This operation led to the arrest of two suspects, identified by the initials FK and LS. During questioning, they confessed to the charges against them, implicating other accomplices, including a Senegalese national. The two other members of the network are still at large. The investigation is ongoing to locate them and determine the full extent of the crimes.
