Parcelles-Assainies : Il menace son père de 93 ans avec un couteau, après avoir vendu la porte des toilettes à 20 000 F CFA
In Unit 2 of the Parcelles-Assainies district, a family dispute nearly turned tragic. Ninety-three-year-old B. Youm was forced to go to the Golf-Sud police station to report the actions of his own son, M. Youm, aged 33. In his statement dated October 28, 2026, the retired bricklayer described a family atmosphere that had become unbearable, punctuated, according to him, by arguments, insults, and violence. His son had attempted to attack him with a knife over a toilet door.
According to the complainant, his son stole the toilet door to resell it. When he asked him for an explanation, the situation escalated. B. Youm claims he was assaulted by his son, who then allegedly threatened him with a knife.
Fearing for his life, the 90-year-old said he took refuge in his room. He maintains that the intervention of family members and neighbors prevented the worst. But even after their intervention, Mr. Youm allegedly continued his provocative behavior, hurling insults at other family members.
“I know he’s capable of carrying out his threats,” the old man told the police. Hence his complaint. “It was against my will that I filed this complaint,” he insisted.
When questioned about his past relationship with his son, B. Youm stated that he never had any particular problems with him. He nevertheless admitted to having failed to get him back on the right path, despite his efforts. He cited bad influences and excessive alcohol consumption.
Summoned to the police station on October 30, Mr. Youm, a tailor and father of two, gave a different version of events. While he rejected his father's accusations, he nevertheless admitted to taking the door intended for the toilet in his room and selling it at the Lambaye market for 20,000 CFA francs.
Regarding the accusations of violence and death threats with a knife, he denies the allegations. He does, however, admit to having been intoxicated on the day of the incident, claiming he no longer remembers precisely what happened.
Regarding his alcohol consumption, he admits to drinking regularly. However, he denies having used marijuana or other drugs. He also denies having brandished a knife at his father and maintains that no bladed weapons are hidden in the house.
Mr. Youm showed no remorse to investigators. He concluded his statement by maintaining that he had done nothing wrong.
At the end of his police custody, he was brought before the Pikine-Guédiawaye prosecutor's office on November 2nd, which remanded him in custody. He will be tried for an offense committed in the act.
