A. Faye, a 42-year-old farmer residing in the village of Darou Salam Diouf, in the commune of Payar, faces a potentially lengthy prison sentence. He is being prosecuted for attempted murder of his younger brother, C. Faye, using a homemade firearm.
The events took place on July 21st in this town in the Koumpentoum department. On that day, the man in his forties violently attacked his daughter and his younger brother's wife. Alerted by the cries of distress from the two victims, C. Faye rushed to the scene to try to rescue them from their attacker. Enraged, A. Faye, who was holding a homemade rifle, fired at point-blank range. Struck by a bullet in the chest, the younger brother collapsed to the ground, lying in a pool of blood.
Alerted to the tragedy, members of the national gendarmerie and firefighters immediately deployed to the scene. After the usual procedures, the victim was urgently transported to the local health district for intensive care.
This exceptionally violent family tragedy has plunged the peaceful village of Darou Salam Diouf into shock and grief. The suspect has been arrested and taken into custody by the gendarmerie. He is expected to be brought before the prosecutor at the Tambacounda High Court as soon as his legal detention period ends.
