Migration irrégulière : 194 migrants dont 24 Sénégalais portés disparus après leur départ de la Gambie
A pirogue carrying 194 people, including women, children, and four babies, has been missing at sea since departing from Brufut, Gambia, on September 29, 2026, bound for Spain. After 21 days without news, concern is growing about the fate of the passengers.
According to available information, the boat left the Gambian coast around 1:30 a.m. Since then, no signs of life from the passengers have been reported.
On board the pirogue were nationals from several African countries. The reported breakdown lists 24 Senegalese, 120 Malians, 36 Guineans, and three Gambians. Eleven other individuals have been identified as pirogue captains.
Among the passengers were also 20 women, 20 children and 4 babies.
After 21 days without news, no information allowing the location of the vessel or the fate of the people on board to be determined has, at this stage, been obtained, according to the available information.
As migrant departures from the Senegalese and Gambian coasts continue on the Canary Islands route, this disappearance raises new concerns about the risks faced by those seeking irregular migration.
