A Dubaï, jusqu'à 700 euros de ristournes pour les résidents invitant des touristes
The emirate of Dubai will offer up to 700 euros in discounts and benefits to residents who invite their relatives to visit, its press service announced Wednesday, as the tourism sector is weighed down by months of war in the region.
"Dubai's Ministry of Economy and Tourism is launching 'A Dubai Invite' to encourage its residents to become ambassadors for the city by hosting their loved ones" until the end of October, according to a press release published on X.
The Dubai government website states that residents who attract new travelers between July 20 and October 31 will "receive benefits worth more than 3,000 dirhams (approximately 716 euros)", in the form of discounts for hotel stays or vouchers for restaurants, amusement parks, etc.
Residents of the emirate can register the people of their choice on the site to benefit from these funds.
Summer is generally the low season in the Emirates, a desert country where temperatures can reach 50°.
With 19.5 million visitors each year, Dubai is one of the most popular destinations in the region and has long been considered the playground of celebrities from around the world.
But the war between Iran and the United States, which began with Israeli-American strikes on Iran in late February, has tarnished the image of stability of the Gulf petro-monarchies.
These countries, allied with the United States, are regularly targeted by Iran in retaliation for American bombings on its soil.
At the start of the war, in the middle of the peak winter season, the Emirates were the hardest hit by Iranian missiles and drones which struck hotels, notably on the artificial island The Palm as well as the iconic Burj Al Arab hotel complex, causing tourists to flee.
Although the Emirates were not affected by the recent resumption of hostilities, which began on July 7, and despite the return of a handful of tourists after the April ceasefire, hotel clientele remains predominantly local, sources in the tourism sector told AFP.
In May, the local government put $400 million (€350 million) on the table to help companies in the sector mitigate the consequences of the war, following an initial allocation of more than $270 million (€236 million) at the end of March.
