Allemagne : une femme retenue en otage dans un supermarché de Berlin
A man has been holding a woman hostage since Friday night in a Berlin supermarket, police in the German capital said Saturday morning.
Around 10:00 PM local time (8:00 PM GMT), "a man grabbed a woman" in a shop on the southern edge of the city and has been holding her "under threat of violence" since, explained Florian Nath, spokesman for the Berlin police, in a video posted on WhatsApp.
The man "made various demands throughout the night," he added, without providing further details.
Police told AFP they were in contact with the hostage-taker. A large police operation, including special units, was deployed.
Even though "there is currently no danger to the population", law enforcement is asking residents to avoid the area so as not to hinder their intervention, insists Mr. Nath.
