Cristiano Ronaldo se marie en toute discrétion au Portugal
After keeping their wedding a secret, Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo and his long-time partner Georgina Rodriguez married in private in Cascais, near Lisbon, opting for a private ceremony in the presence of their five children.
Ronaldo, 41, and Georgina, 32, "are now officially husband and wife," according to a note quoting a statement from the player sent to Brunswick Group, adding that "the ceremony was a private and intimate moment attended by their five children."
After nearly ten years of relationship, the footballer and the influencer formalized their union far from a grandiose ceremony after several days of speculation and false leads about the festivities.
The ceremony was ultimately held discreetly. The only official photograph available is the one published on Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez's social media accounts, showing their hands intertwined, their wedding rings clearly visible.
As rumors about the location and date of the wedding multiplied, the couple finally took everyone by surprise.
- False leads -
Some media outlets had announced the wedding several times since the beginning of August, first in Sintra, in the suburbs of Lisbon, then in Funchal, on the island of Madeira, where Cristiano Ronaldo is from.
Following press reports announcing the wedding last Saturday in Funchal, hundreds of people gathered in front of the city's cathedral awaiting the ceremony. But they were ultimately met by a different bride and groom.
When contacted by AFP a few days earlier, Funchal Cathedral had indicated that it had no wedding ceremony planned for CR7, while specifying that it "would have been an honor".
The couple, who met in Madrid in 2016, have since built a family that is very much in the media spotlight.
Together, they have over 750 million followers across their various social media accounts.
Georgina, a Spanish model and influencer of Argentinian origin, is raising their two daughters with Ronaldo, while the footballer is also the father of three other children.
Their family life is regularly shared with their millions of followers on social media.
Their engagement was announced by Georgina a year ago, when she posted a photograph of their hands on Instagram, revealing a striking ring.
A few months later, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner, who currently plays for the Saudi club Al-Nassr, hinted during an interview on English television that the wedding could take place after the 2026 World Cup.
But after carefully maintaining the mystery, the couple finally chose Cascais, an upscale seaside resort about thirty kilometers west of Lisbon, where they own a villa.
