The president of the autonomous community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, announced on her X account that Lionel Messi had made a huge donation of 80,000 euros for the reconstruction of the Sierra Oeste, a forest territory near Madrid, which burned down this summer.

Like France, Spain has also been severely affected by numerous fires this summer. Among the burned areas is the Sierra Oeste, a forested region located very close to Madrid.

The president of the Madrid regional government, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, announced some very good news on her Instagram account. Lionel Messi has reportedly made a very generous donation of 80,000 euros for the reconstruction of the Sierra Oeste. The fires ravaged nearly 27,000 hectares across 17 municipalities, destroying farms and numerous homes.

"Give him the applause he deserves"

"Leo Messi has donated 80,000 euros for the reconstruction of the Sierra Oeste in Madrid. I want to thank him and tell him that the people of Madrid hope to welcome him soon to give him the applause he deserves," said Isabel Díaz Ayuso.

According to local press reports, the fire in the area is now stabilized and is reportedly under control after several weeks of devastation. A reconstruction plan has been launched to help affected residents and restore natural spaces. Messi's €80,000 donation will be allocated to this plan.

Now at Inter Miami since 2023, Lionel Messi remains very attached to Spain. The Argentinian spent 21 years of his life in Catalonia, in Barcelona. He also holds a Spanish passport. The former Barça star even still owns two houses in Spain, one in Castelldefels and the other in Ibiza.
