Israël a mis en garde les États-Unis contre un nouveau complot iranien visant à assassiner Trump
According to a report, Israel shared intelligence with the United States regarding a new Iranian plot to assassinate US President Donald Trump.
The latest assassination plot, revealed by the Wall Street Journal on Thursday, July 9, comes after years of threats from the Iranian regime to assassinate Trump in retaliation for the 2020 assassination of General Qassem Soleimani, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, by US forces.
When asked for comment, the White House referred the Washington Post to Trump's remarks made Wednesday at the NATO summit in Ankara.
"They want to eliminate the American president, that is to say, me," Trump said. "I'm on all their lists. I saw this morning that I was on every single one of them. So far, I've been a little lucky, I guess, but it might not last."
"These are evil and sick people," the president continued. "And we must eradicate this cancer. This particular cancer. You know what needs to be done? It must be eliminated as soon as possible. That's what I think."
Trump traveled to Turkey aboard his new Qatari-owned plane, nicknamed the "air palace," but took another Air Force One to return home. This change of aircraft was a strategic "diversion" to ensure the safety of the commander-in-chief, the White House said.
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, who was accompanying the president to the summit, was ordered not to travel to Israel as planned shortly before Trump decided to change planes in Turkey. It is unclear whether the Iranian threat also targeted the Secretary of War.
The Israelis alerted the United States to this plot earlier this week. The specific threat was not being monitored by US authorities prior to this Israeli warning and has not yet been verified, according to CNN.
This warning comes as tensions have emerged in relations between President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following the conflict with Iran.
On June 1, Trump told Netanyahu he was "completely crazy" about his attacks on Lebanon, fearing they would provoke a new war with Iran.
"If it weren't for me, you'd be in jail. I'm saving you. Everyone hates you now. Everyone hates Israel because of this," summarized an American official, quoting Trump's words, which the president later confirmed to the Washington Post.
