« Justice now !
From Rio de Janeiro, more than 250 Amnesty International leaders have issued a solemn appeal for justice for the victims of the 2021-2024 period in Senegal. Killed protesters, victims of torture, and political prisoners are at the heart of a manifesto that puts the issue of victims back at the center of the debate.
The message from Rio de Janeiro is short, but heavy with meaning: " Justice now! " Gathered in Brazil for Amnesty International's World Assembly, more than 250 leaders of the organization decided to give a voice to the victims of years of political and social tension in Senegal.

In their manifesto, they demand justice for the protesters killed, those tortured, and political prisoners from the period 2021-2024. Through this mobilization, Amnesty International aims to remind everyone that behind the political events and demonstrations lie, first and foremost, human lives. Families have lost loved ones, people have been victims of violence, and others have experienced detention in a particularly tense environment.
The slogan is repeated insistently: "Justice now! For the dead," "Justice now! For the victims of torture," and "Justice now! For the political prisoners." These words express a fundamental demand: to shed light on the denounced violence and to allow the victims and their families to obtain justice.
The fact that this appeal is being launched from Rio de Janeiro gives this demand an international dimension. Amnesty International's World Assembly thus becomes a platform to recall the wounds left by the 2021-2024 period in Senegal.
For the families of the victims, this is not simply a past event. Behind every victim are loved ones grappling with grief, absence, and the wait for answers. Amnesty International's manifesto therefore puts one crucial demand at the forefront: that the victims not be forgotten and that those responsible be held accountable.
The choice of these two words in English, “ Justice now! ”, gives the message a universal reach. It is not just a slogan, but a call not to leave victims in silence. In Rio, Amnesty International reiterated that the pursuit of justice is an essential step for Senegal to finally turn the page on the violence and tensions of recent years. The message is unequivocal: for the dead, for the victims of torture, and for those detained for political reasons, justice can no longer wait.
