L'Arabie saoudite accuse des groupes pro-iraniens d'avoir visé son territoire depuis l'Irak
Saudi armed forces intercepted and destroyed several drones launched from Iraq and targeting oil facilities, the Saudi Ministry of Defense said Monday, accusing Iranian-backed armed groups of being behind the attack.
"Terrorist attacks have been launched from Iraqi territory by terrorist militias supported by Iran," the ministry said in a statement.
Riyadh then called on Baghdad to "take all necessary measures to prevent its territory from being used as a starting point for aggression".
This attack comes despite the lull observed since the beginning of Saturday in hostilities between the United States and Iran, after thirteen days of clashes.
Pro-Iranian armed groups based in Iraq have not claimed responsibility for any attacks in the region since the resumption of these clashes between Washington and Tehran at the beginning of the month.
Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries had accused these armed groups of carrying out waves of attacks against their territory during the previous phase of the conflict.
This latest incident comes as Houthi rebels in Yemen, backed by Iran, claimed responsibility on Monday for drone attacks against Saudi oil infrastructure.
Riyadh and the Houthis have exchanged strikes in recent days, with the Yemeni rebels announcing on July 20 their intention to block Saudi Arabian ships, the world's leading crude oil exporter, from traveling in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
