The US Senate on Saturday approved the choice of Todd Blanche, Donald Trump's former personal lawyer, to formally become the new Attorney General, who had already been serving as interim Attorney General since April.
This Senate confirmation, by a vote of 50 to 49, concludes a convoluted process for the US president, who saw a handful of senators from his own Republican party oppose Todd Blanche's appointment before a breakthrough earlier this week. The Democratic opposition, which denounces a political use of the justice system, strongly opposed it.
