Uganda's main independent media group said Sunday it was "under siege by the army" after the army chief, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, ordered the closure of its television channel, newspapers and radio stations.

"NTV and Monitor are closed from today!" wrote the army chief, who is also the son of President Yoweri Museveni, on X, referring to the NTV Uganda channel and the Daily Monitor newspaper, both owned by the Nation Media Group.

In messages on X, these two media outlets indicated that they were "besieged by the army," with soldiers standing guard outside their offices in the capital, Kampala.

"NTV Uganda and Spark TV forced to stop broadcasting while the Daily Monitor is closed on the orders of General Muhoozi," the newspaper also posted on X.

Other media outlets in the group, including Dembe FM, KFM and The East African, are also affected.

"In Uganda, I do NOT believe in freedom of the press! The press must be guided by cadres of the revolution," said Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

"Neither NTV nor Monitor will reopen without my permission... From now on, ALL media in Uganda must abide by the rules!", he added.

Dans un pays normal, la liberté de la presse se concilie avec l'interdiction de la désinformation. Au Sénégal il y a trop de désordre et certains groupe de presse ne font que désinformer. Manque d'autorité ?
