Trump releases a ranking of the best and worst presidents

The American president believes he is the greatest in history and does not forget to call out his long-time enemies.

Donald Trump published on Thursday evening on his Truth Social network a ranking of his own: that of American presidents in history, ranked from best to worst.

Unsurprisingly, the current occupant of the White House sits alone at the top of this list. He is "the best," the greatest, "The Greatest."

Trump then awarded a "great" to six illustrious presidents: Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson.

The vast majority of the Republican billionaire's predecessors received a "medium" rating. Even Bill Clinton, whom he doesn't hold in high regard.

According to American media, this ranking is in fact largely inspired by a 1948 article from "Life Magazine".

The Daily Beast also notes the absence of a whole series of his predecessors, including John F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, Richard Nixon, and the Bushes, father and son. According to HuffPost, only 35 of the 45 men who have occupied the Oval Office in Washington are included in Trump's historical hierarchy.

In any case, there is a big difference with the exercise of "Life Magazine", apart from the personal glorification: the president did not forget to classify, at the very bottom, the "fails", "misses".

It includes five presidents, among them his two predecessors whom he openly detests, Barack Obama and Joe Biden. Jimmy Carter, also a Democrat, is also in this category. As are two Republicans, Ulysses Grant and Warren Harding – perhaps because they are remembered for scandals and Donald Trump dislikes being compared to them.

What to make of it? "There's definitely a touch of humor and provocation in this chart," comments Le Parisien. But also, given Donald Trump's difficulties, a desire to try "to position himself for the long term, to become part of the American narrative, even if only lightly on social media."

Donald Trump published his ranking without any comment.
