Trump devient le premier commandant en chef américain en exercice depuis 100 ans à figurer sur une pièce de monnaie
President Donald Trump, commander-in-chief of the United States, has realized his long-held ambition to be featured on the national currency after the U.S. Mint issued a $1 coin bearing his likeness.
These coins were put into circulation on September 2, 2026, the date on which the United States celebrates the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
The legal tender coin, produced at the Philadelphia Mint in manganese brass, bears Trump's portrait as well as the inscriptions "1776 ~ 2026", "LIBERTY" and "IN GOD WE TRUST".
"These coins are also in circulation, so check your change. Start collecting them today!" the U.S. Mint wrote in a social media post Wednesday.
The US one-dollar coin has previously featured figures such as George Washington, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Susan B. Anthony, and Sacagawea. However, Donald Trump is the first sitting US president in a century to be featured on a coin while still in office.
This initiative also fulfills an ambition first mentioned in 2025, when Treasury officials confirmed their plan for a $1 coin bearing Trump's image, and places him among the small number of sitting heads of state whose image appears on the national currency.
In Africa, the closest parallels at present are King Mohammed VI of Morocco and King Mswati III of Eswatini, both living heads of state who remain in office while also appearing on the national currency.
