Un pétrolier en feu au large de l'Arabie saoudite après une frappe d'un "projectile inconnu"
An oil tanker caught fire after being hit on Monday by an "unknown projectile" in the Red Sea, off the Saudi port of Yanbu, the British maritime agency UKMTO said.
A company reported that an oil tanker was struck by an unknown projectile, causing a fire on the ship's main deck. All crew members are safe and sound (...) and no environmental impact has been reported," UKMTO announced, specifying that the incident occurred 63 nautical miles west of Yanbu.
The British maritime security company Vanguard Tech indicated that a Saudi-flagged vessel had been hit by a missile and had caught fire.
Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen have been regularly targeting the kingdom's ships since they announced a maritime blockade against Riyadh, which supports the Yemeni government, at the end of July, in a new phase of the regional conflict triggered by the Israeli-American offensive against Tehran on February 28.
After Tehran blocked the Strait of Hormuz, the port of Yanbu became the main exit point for Saudi oil, while the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, at the southern limit of the Red Sea, became a crucial passage for maritime traffic.
