A woman suspected of planning a bomb attack on the New York State Capitol on behalf of the Islamic State (ISIS) group has been arrested, US judicial authorities announced Thursday.

Jessica Bowie, 35, an American who converted to Islam five years ago, according to the prosecution, was arrested Wednesday and charged with "attempting to provide support to a terrorist organization," namely ISIS.

"Ms. Bowie planned the use of an explosive device to carry out an attack against the New York State Capitol and state senators," said John Sarcone, a federal prosecutor, during a news conference in Albany, the state capital.

She had shared her intentions with an informant for the FBI, the American federal police, and scouted the locations several times, according to the prosecution.

She faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, Mr. Sarcone pointed out.
