Justice : Toussaint Manga condamné pour diffamation contre Alioune Ndoye
In the defamation case opposing Alioune Ndoye, mayor of Dakar-Plateau, to Toussaint Manga, Director General of Lonase, the Dakar criminal court delivered its verdict last Wednesday, reports Les Échos.
Found guilty of defamation and spreading false news, Toussaint Manga was sentenced to two months' suspended imprisonment and a fine of 100,000 CFA francs. He must also pay 5 million CFA francs in damages to the mayor of Dakar-Plateau, whose lawyer, Baboucar Cissé, had initially sought 500 million CFA francs in compensation. Furthermore, the court ordered the defendant to publish the ruling in several media outlets, including the website Seneweb.
The case stems from comments posted on Facebook, in which the Pastef official accused the former minister of mismanagement and mentioned alleged revenues linked to the National Lottery, the same source recalls. Considering these statements defamatory, Alioune Ndoye initiated legal proceedings by direct summons after Toussaint Manga refused to retract his remarks.
