C Kouyaté, a 32-year-old Sierra Leonean national residing in Notto Diobass, appeared this Wednesday before the Thiès court of flagrant offenses for illegal stay on Senegalese territory.
In court, the defendant, a bricklayer by trade, denied the charges against him. He explained that he had entered Senegal with his passport, but lost track of it after leaving it behind in Fatick.
“I came to Senegal with my passport. I stayed there for two years. I left my passport in Fatick. I left that town a year ago before settling in Diobass,” he told the court. The defendant admitted, however, that he did not have a residence permit.
In his submissions, the public prosecutor deferred to the application of the law.
The court found C. Kouyaté guilty of illegal residence and sentenced him to a fine of 50,000 FCFA and ordered his expulsion from Senegalese territory.
