Décès de Cheikh Hamidou Kane : Le président béninois Wadagni lui rend hommage
His name is often associated with "Ambiguous Adventure", the title of one of his most famous novels.
Cheikh Hamidou Kane, the iconic Senegalese writer, passed away on October 3rd in Dakar at the age of 98. Deeply moved by the death of the literary figure, the President of Benin, Romuald Wadagni, paid tribute to him.
A "great voice of the independence generation"
“It is with deep sadness that I learned of the passing of Cheikh Hamidou Kane. With him, a great voice of the independence generation is lost. Through his thought and his writing, he helped Africa reflect on itself, on its identity, its culture, and its relationship to the world. Senegal loses a great writer, Africa loses a great voice,” the Beninese leader wrote in a post on his Facebook page.
He then offered his "sincere condolences to the family (of the deceased), to his loved ones, to the Senegalese people and to the entire literary community."
It must be said that the Senegalese novelist is very well known in Benin. His novel Ambiguous Adventure is part of the curriculum in secondary schools.
For Patrice Talon's successor, this work transcends eras and continues to "question us".
