DPG of the PM: "Ahmadou Al Aminou Lo justified himself more than he projected himself," Thierno Bocoum

Prime Minister Ahmadou Al Aminou Lo's general policy statement (DPG) was a litany of justifications rather than projections for the future, as Thierno Bocoum had expected. In a statement, the president of AGIR-LES LEADERS said he was left wanting more.

"Instead of opening wide the windows of the future, he half-opened them onto a horizon cluttered with constraints. He wanted to draw tomorrow, but with the pencil of the past and the ink of conditionalities. He tied the future in a knot of constraints, debts and commitments, when the country was waiting for a vision capable of loosening the grip and giving public action its breath. He was verbose about what will not return and discreet about what must come to pass," analyzes Mr. Bocoum.

Indeed, according to Thierno Bocoum, the Senegalese "no longer wait to be told why the situation is difficult. They live it. They no longer wait to be told about the legacy, the constraints, the mistakes of the past or the difficulties encountered along the way."

The Senegalese people want and expect concrete answers. "We want to tell them how we are going to get out of this, with what resources, within what timeframe, and above all, at what cost to the Senegalese people. Maintaining a course is not a policy in itself. A course is corrected when it leads the country into a dead end," insists the president of AGIR.

Bocoum continued, before adding regretfully: "When the agreement with the IMF imposes new constraints, when debt becomes the heart of the budget equation, when room for maneuver shrinks, and when yesterday's commitments are no longer sufficient to finance today's ambitions, maintaining the same course without presenting a new path is stubbornness. The DPG was supposed to open up a perspective. It mainly confirmed that the government is still a prisoner of its own narrative."
