Fronde au Parti socialiste : « Notre démarche ne vise pas à emprisonner Aminata Mbengue Ndiaye »
The rebellion is growing within Léopold Sédar Senghor's historic party. The Socialist Party (PS) is now "dramatically impoverished, humiliated, and erased from the Senegalese political map," declared Daour Sagna at a press conference held this Tuesday, November 4, 2026, in Thiès. Surrounded by several dissenting members who have filed a lawsuit against the current leadership, the political figure did not mince words with the press, lambasting the management of the Secretary General, Aminata Mbengue Ndiaye.
According to the dissidents, the party is no longer producing any ideas and is facing a hemorrhage of resignations and a mass exodus of its leaders. "And all this for what? To satisfy the sordid selfishness, gluttony, and greed of an illegitimate leadership that has decided to hold the heritage of an entire people hostage!" exclaimed Daour Sagna, asserting that the time for bowing and scraping is now over.
The initiators of the legal action also refute the accusations made by their political opponents. “Instead of examining their consciences, the de facto leadership is exhausting itself with propaganda of unprecedented vulgarity, daring to claim that our action aims to imprison the Secretary General, Aminata Mbengue Ndiaye. Let the propaganda mobs hear this clearly: we are not seeking to imprison anyone! Raising the specter of prison is the only shield of cowards, the false victimhood of a desperate leadership trembling with terror at the thought of facing the full force of the law,” Mr. Sagna asserted.
Referring to the recent clashes at the party headquarters in Colobane, the protesters condemned the reception given to grassroots activists. "That day, the genuine activists of this party, who came to demand their statutory right to speak, were met with rusty padlocks, shameful barricades, and private militias paid to bloody our comrades! We narrowly avoided a human tragedy. Faced with this political savagery, our response could not be violence: we chose the sovereign force of the law and asked the justice system of the Republic to decide!"
From a legal and statutory standpoint, the dissenters believe the illegitimacy of the current leadership is crystal clear. Following the death of Ousmane Tanor Dieng in July 2019, Article 30 of the party statutes entrusted Aminata Mbengue Ndiaye with a strict interim mission, consisting of completing the current term, which was due to expire in 2021. "For over seven years, she has been desperately clinging to a substitute position, which is longer than a presidential term! A technical interim has transformed into an absolute and illegal gerontocracy," they denounce, while also pointing out that Article 33 mandates an ordinary congress every four years.
Daour Sagna and his colleagues also mock the current leadership, accusing them of hiding in the plush lounges of private hotels to hold clandestine meetings out of fear of the rank and file, while describing the special commission established to reform the party as a lamentable failure. They also dismiss the idea of external manipulation: "The opposing side is trying to manipulate public opinion by claiming that our legal action is a remote control by the signatories of the Dundal PS Manifesto. That's a blatant lie! The summons is the founding act of free and independent leaders who refuse the euthanasia of their party."
Addressing a warning to Aminata Mbengue Ndiaye, the dissidents urge her to acknowledge the disastrous state of her leadership and to choose an honorable exit. "Your resignation today would not be an admission of weakness, but the ultimate service you can render to the party, allowing you to leave with dignity before facing legal repercussions and the contempt of history," they warn.
Finally, Daour Sagna made his intentions clear for the movement's next steps. The legal summons would only be the first stage of an action plan comprised of ninety-three points. The dissidents plan to peacefully occupy the party headquarters in Colobane to demand the premises be vacated and the unconditional departure of the current leadership, concluding their statement with a strong condemnation of the official party line's communications.
