Political tension has risen a notch in the National Assembly following the decision by the Pastef parliamentary group to reject the 2026 amending finance law. For MP and political leader Thierno Alassane Sall, this refusal is not just a budgetary arbitration, but resembles a real strategy of censorship aimed at blocking the institutions.
In a statement on the social network X, the MP accuses the parliamentary majority of having knowingly shortened and neutralized the democratic debate to prevent elected opposition members from highlighting the weaknesses of the government's arguments.
For Thierno Alassane Sall, the behavior of the Pastef deputies demonstrates a serious decline in Senegal's democratic traditions. He describes the ruling party's attitude as "a denial of our democratic achievements," believing that obstructing discussions in the National Assembly is primarily aimed at protecting partisan interests at the expense of the national interest.
"This censorship is part of a disastrous determination to drag our country towards institutional chaos," the parliamentarian warned.
Pushing his attack further, the leader of the Republic of Values uses the famous biblical allegory of Solomon's judgment to illustrate the conduct of the current government. According to him, Pastef is behaving like the "false mother," ready to sacrifice and divide the child—in this case, the Senegalese nation—rather than relinquish its hegemony.
By avoiding the test of contradiction in the face of the opposition, Pastef is, according to Thierno Alassane Sall, implicitly admitting that it prioritizes safeguarding its own political interests over the future of the country.
