Octobre Rose à Joal : La Fondation Senelec et la LISCA offrent des soins gratuits à près de 500 femmes
The fight against women's cancers is strengthening its presence closer to communities. During Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October), the Senelec Foundation, in partnership with the Senegalese League Against Cancer (LISCA), took over the Caritas health post in the Joal health district for a full day of awareness-raising, screening, and free medical consultations. More than 500 patients benefited from this initiative aimed at reducing inequalities in access to preventative care.
To ensure optimal care, several consultation rooms have been set up to accommodate users under the direct supervision of oncological surgeons, supported by midwives from the Joal health district and specialists dispatched from Dakar.
El Hadji Malik Amar, a member of the LISCA board of directors and secretary general in charge of decentralization, praised the exemplary partnership. He noted that the Senelec Foundation has spared no effort for years in supporting the League in raising awareness, screening, and treating patients. He also expressed his gratitude to the chief medical officer of the Joal health district, community health workers, and local healthcare staff for their outstanding efforts.
HPV vaccination : LISCA calls for family mobilization
Beyond breast and cervical cancer screening tests, LISCA used this platform to emphasize primary prevention of cervical cancer through vaccination against human papillomavirus (HPV).
El Hadji Malik Amar strongly urged parents to have their girls aged 9 to 14 vaccinated at designated health facilities. Addressing the initial reluctance that had hampered the vaccine rollout in some communities, he reaffirmed the need for continued community outreach to dispel rumors and encourage widespread participation from families.
From Tivaouane Peulh to Joal: The social trajectory of the Senelec Foundation
Present at the ceremony, Ms. Wane Khady Diouf, head of the public relations unit of the Senelec Foundation, reviewed the results of this strategic alliance with LISCA.
The Foundation's work has materialized in campaigns with a strong social impact. In 2024, a similar operation at the Tivaouane Peulh health center provided consultations to over 600 women, coupled with the donation of thermal ablation equipment to the Touba health center and the Dalal Jamm hospital. In 2025, the campaign conducted at the Diourbel referral health center screened 800 women and included the donation of a colposcopy machine to LISCA. This year, the deployment in Joal reflects the commitment to placing territorial equity at the heart of corporate social responsibility policies.
Ms. Wane Khady Diouf emphasized that Senelec's mission extends beyond its industrial role of electricity supply to encompass the well-being and sustainable development of communities. The Foundation and LISCA are currently exploring expanding their partnership to include other public health programs throughout the year.
