1 milliard F CFA de faux billets saisis par la BR de Faidherbe : Un retraité et trois de ses fils parmi les six personnes arrêtées
In a press release, Colonel Ibrahima Ndiaye, head of the National Gendarmerie's Communication and Public Relations Division, announced yesterday the dismantling of a counterfeit currency trafficking network. The operation resulted in the seizure of the equivalent of over one billion CFA francs in counterfeit bills. The gendarmes also recovered a 9mm Taurus automatic pistol, 20 9mm blank cartridges, and 15 12mm cartridges. In addition, they seized two suspected counterfeit stamps, a bulletproof vest, a dagger, and bottles believed to contain mercury. Seneweb provides an account of the investigation that led to the arrest of six suspects, including a retiree and three of his sons.
On October 5, 2026, the Faidherbe Criminal Investigation Brigade (BR) received information regarding a suspected network in possession of foreign currency banknotes. These banknotes were likely to be chemically cleaned for fraudulent use as payment.
The first suspect arrested in Nord-Foire
The investigation by plainclothes officers led to the arrest of V. Ndione, described as a businessman, in an apartment in Nord-Foire, in possession of counterfeit banknotes. During questioning, he reportedly named AL Mbengue, residing in Louga and described as an art teacher , and MDD Samb, described as his bodyguard. In Louga, AL Mbengue was arrested by the gendarmerie and taken to Dakar in an unmarked vehicle.
The arrest in Mbour and the search in Nguékhokh
A raid in Mbour also led to the arrest of MDD Samb at the Malicounda intersection. A search of his home in Nguékhokh resulted in the seizure of a suitcase filled with counterfeit $100 and €100 bills. Their estimated value is 1,026,200,000 CFA francs. Investigators also discovered an automatic pistol and ammunition. MDD did not have a permit to carry them. Following the operation in the Petite-Côte region, security guard MDD Samb was transferred to Dakar under heavy escort.
The revelations made to the investigators of the Faidherbe BR
When questioned at the Faidherbe police station, MDD Samb reportedly named AL Mbengue, arrested in Louga, and V. Ndione, the first person apprehended, as members of the network. He also identified the latter's father, B. Ndione, a retiree, as well as his two brothers, DS Ndione and ES Ndione, a surveyor.
The raid by detectives in Thiès resulted in the arrest of the retiree and the two other sons mentioned, who reside in the Mbour 2 district.
In total, six suspects have been taken into custody. The investigation is focusing on a family-based network.
