2 mois de prison pour vol d'aubergines : A. Diallo révèle les raisons de son acte
Young A. Diallo appeared before the Thiès court on Monday for theft. He is being prosecuted for stealing a bag of eggplants from the field of farmer M. Diop in Cayar.
According to the evidence presented at the hearing, the defendant left his village of Kahone on September 19th to go to Cayar in search of work. Arriving in this area of the Niayes region that same day, he waited until nightfall before going, around 11 p.m., to Mr. Diop's field where he began cutting eggplants to fill his bag. Surprised by the landowner, A. Diallo tried to flee but was caught and handed over to the gendarmes.
In court, he explained that he had stolen the eggplants to resell them in order to feed himself. “That day, I had just arrived in Cayar. I didn’t have a single penny on me, yet I was so hungry. That’s why I stole those eggplants to buy food,” he stated. The plaintiff sought 50,000 CFA francs in damages.
Believing that the facts are established, the prosecutor requested two years of imprisonment, including two months of mandatory imprisonment.
The court agreed, sentencing A. Diallo to two years in prison, with two months to be served, and a fine of 20,000 CFA francs. He will also have to pay 50,000 CFA francs in damages to the plaintiff.
