32 millions F CFA contre 1 milliard : les dessous d’une mystérieuse opération « mallettes d’euros »
A promise to transform 32.237 million CFA francs into one billion, "mystical sacrifices," and alleged "suitcases full of cash": this is the case pitting CS Niane, 28, residing in Mbao, against BS Diop, 63, a marabout (religious leader) based in Spain. According to L'Observateur, Niane appeared before the Special Criminal Court of Pikine-Guédiawaye on charges of "fraud" and "charlatanism." At the heart of the proceedings is a mysterious "Tabbil" operation supposedly designed to multiply the plaintiff's investment.
BS Diop claims to have contacted CS Niane after seeing him on television. He maintains that he paid him a total of 32,237,114 FCFA via MoneyGram and Wave transfers to finance the operation and says he possesses the receipts. The marabout-priest also claims to have personally seen briefcases containing bundles of euros in the defendant's room.
Faced with these accusations, CS Niane disputes some of the facts. While acknowledging receiving funds, he admits to only "16 million." Although claiming to be able to "multiply money," he attributes the operation's failure to the plaintiff, maintaining that "the required sacrifices had not been fully met" and that "11 million was missing."
During the trial, the prosecution argued that these actions constituted fraudulent schemes and requested a one-year prison sentence. The defense pleaded for acquittal, emphasizing that the plaintiff, who came from the same mystical background, was familiar with the world he had entered. At the close of the proceedings, L'Observateur reported that the court sentenced CS Niane to six months in prison and ordered him to pay 52 million in damages.
