Affaire de drogue à Diourbel : Quatre sapeurs-pompiers jugés jeudi prochain
After being brought back to the prosecutor's office yesterday Wednesday, four firefighters were taken this Thursday to the Diourbel High Court by the urban security of the local central police station.
According to the latest reports, Prosecutor Amary Faye, the head of the public prosecutor's office, has granted them provisional release. However, the four firefighters will be tried in summary proceedings next Thursday, according to Seneweb sources. They are all being prosecuted for rebellion and insulting a public official in the performance of their duties. One of them is also charged with possession and use of marijuana.
Their arrest stemmed from a police officer who spotted four individuals in civilian clothes, one of whom was in possession of marijuana, near the central police station in Diourbel. He apprehended the suspect in possession of the drugs and took him to the police station. However, the three other firefighters fiercely resisted their colleague's arrest.
It was in these circumstances that the police officer was subdued and injured in a sensitive area of his body. Despite the prompt intervention of his colleagues at the police station, he was admitted to the hospital's emergency room.
The four firefighters were arrested and taken into custody. The police officer received a medical certificate attesting to a five-day period of temporary incapacity for work.
