Coup de vent dans la nuit du 23 au 24 septembre : le Port Autonome de Dakar mobilisé après l'échouement de navires au mouillage
During the night of Wednesday, September 23rd to Thursday, September 24th, 2026, a strong gale struck the Dakar area. This exceptional weather event caused several ships at anchor to break free, leading them to drift towards the coast. Some vessels ran aground on the banks of the Bel-Air, Yarakh, and Hann rivers.
From the very first hours, the Autonomous Port of Dakar deployed its teams to the various affected sites. Their mission is to secure the ships, assess their material condition, and ensure the absence of any risk of pollution or damage to the marine and coastal environment.
In close collaboration with the relevant government departments and services, the Autonomous Port of Dakar will take all necessary measures for the refloating and securing of the ships concerned, as soon as favorable weather conditions return.
The situation is being constantly monitored. All port teams remain on alert and mobilized to guarantee the safety of people, property and the coastline.
The Port Authority of Dakar urges local residents to keep their distance from the grounded vessels and to strictly follow the instructions of the authorities on site. Further information will be provided as the situation evolves.
