Darou Mousty : le talibé ivoirien, les 6 millions F CFA et le billet pour Abidjan
A 24-year-old Ivorian student, A. Cissé, who was welcomed into a daara in Darou Mousty to learn the Quran, received a six-month prison sentence for stealing 6 million CFA francs, reports L'Observateur, which attended the hearing.
The events took place during the Gamou celebration at the daara of Serigne Bara Lô, the same source details. Taking advantage of his religious leader's brief absence and the trust he enjoyed, the young man grabbed a bag containing money and a cell phone. He then headed towards Dakar after buying a ticket to Abidjan. The investigation led to his arrest near the Baux Maraîchers train station, where he was apprehended along with two other Ivorian nationals, Mr. Fofana and Mr. Doumbia.
Placed in pretrial detention on August 31, the three men are being prosecuted for "criminal conspiracy" and, in some cases, "receiving stolen goods." At the hearing, the newspaper of the Groupe Futurs Médias reports, the prosecution requested two years' imprisonment for all the defendants, citing "collective involvement." However, the accounts of those involved differ, particularly regarding the destination of the funds.
In its ruling, L'Observateur adds, the court acquitted Mr. Fofana and Mr. Doumbia entirely. A. Cissé was also acquitted of the charge of "criminal conspiracy." The charges, initially prosecuted as burglary, were reduced to "simple theft." Found guilty, Cissé will also have to pay 7 million in damages to Serigne Bara Lô.
