Spiritual diplomacy: Jamhiyatou Ansaarud-Din organizes a major conference in Casablanca

From November 6 to 8, 2026, the city of Casablanca, Morocco, will host an international symposium dedicated to Sufism, peace, and the dialogue of civilizations. Organized by Jamhiyatou Ansaarud-Din – Groupement Maroc (an association of followers of Baye Niass), this event aims to highlight the historical, scientific, diplomatic, and spiritual ties between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Senegal.

Placed under the theme "Spiritual Diplomacy and Bilateral Relations: The Role of States and Religious Leaders in Strengthening the Rapprochement between Morocco and Senegal", this initiative will bring together authorities, diplomats, religious leaders, academics, researchers, and personalities from various institutions in both countries.

For three days, participants will discuss the contribution of Sufism and religious brotherhoods to peacebuilding, bringing people closer together, and strengthening cooperation between nations. This will be an opportunity to revisit a shared spiritual heritage that has profoundly shaped relations between Morocco and Senegal.

Sheikh Ibrahim Niass at the heart of the discussions

Significant emphasis will be placed on the legacy of Sheikh Ibrahim Niass, a major figure of the Tijaniyya order and a key player in the spread of Islam worldwide. His relationship with the Kingdom of Morocco, his contributions to the Hassaniya religious education programs, and his scholarly and spiritual contributions will be the subject of dedicated presentations.

The work will also allow us to revisit the role of great religious and spiritual figures, notably Sheikh Omar Al Foutiyou, El Hadj Abdoulaye Niass and El Hadj Malick Sy, in building bridges between the two countries.
