Fleuve Gambie : le niveau de l’eau dépasse la cote d’alerte à Kédougou
The hydrological situation remains under surveillance at several stations in the Gambia River basin. In Kédougou, the water level remains above the alert threshold, despite a decrease recorded over the last 24 hours.
Vigilance remains essential at several monitoring points in the Gambia River basin. According to the daily hydrological bulletin from the Tambacounda/Kédougou Water Resources Brigade, issued this Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 8:00 AM, the Kédougou station recorded a water level of 7.61 meters, compared to 8.15 meters the previous day.
This represents a drop of 54 centimeters in 24 hours. But despite this decrease, the level remains above the alert threshold of 7 meters. The difference is +0.61 meters, placing the station under red alert, signifying absolute vigilance.
The year-on-year comparison also shows a significantly higher situation than on the same date in 2025. On September 26 of last year, the water level was 5.26 meters, a difference of 2.35 meters in favour of 2026.
Several stations on the rise
The trend is upward in the majority of the other stations monitored.
At Mako, the water level rose from 5.40 to 5.76 meters, an increase of 36 centimeters in 24 hours. With the alert level set at 6 meters, the station is still 24 centimeters below this threshold.
The rise is even more pronounced in Simenti, where the water level reached 9.84 meters, compared to 8.56 meters the previous day, representing a dramatic increase of 1.28 meters in 24 hours. However, the level remains 3.16 meters below the alert threshold of 13 meters.
In Gouloumbou, the water level has risen to 7.40 meters, an increase of 64 centimeters. The alert level is 12 meters.
Diaguiri reaches its alert level
The Diaguiri station is also a point of concern. The water level has risen from 5.86 to 6 meters, an increase of 14 centimeters in 24 hours. The alert level is precisely set at 6 meters: the threshold has therefore been reached.
On the tributaries, the water level continues to rise at Thiokoye, reaching 6.83 meters, an increase of 20 centimeters in 24 hours. At Niokolokoba, the level reached 4.98 meters (+8 cm), while Diarha Pont recorded one of the largest increases, rising by 1.19 meters to reach 5.35 meters.
A situation to monitor closely
The summary table in the bulletin thus highlights a contrasting situation: Kédougou is experiencing a decrease in water levels but remains above its alert level, while several other stations are seeing a sometimes rapid rise in water levels. In Diaguiri, the alert threshold has been reached, while Mako and Simenti remain below their respective alert levels.
These hydrological developments therefore call for sustained monitoring of the various watercourses, particularly in areas where levels are approaching or exceeding alert thresholds.
