Fleuve Gambie : les niveaux d’eau remontent à Kédougou et Mako, la vigilance reste de mise.
The hydrological situation of the Gambia River and its main tributaries is showing contrasting trends in the Kédougou region. According to the daily hydrological bulletin from the Tambacounda/Kédougou Water Resources Brigade, published on September 22, 2026 at 8:00 AM, several stations are showing rising water levels, while others are stable or falling.
At the Kédougou station, the water level reached 4.30 meters, compared to 4.04 meters the previous day, representing a rise of 26 centimeters in 24 hours. Despite this increase, the level remains 2.70 meters below the alert threshold of 7 meters. Compared to the same date in 2025, however, the level is down by 2.47 meters.
The same trend is observed at Mako, where the water level rose from 3.47 to 3.73 meters, also an increase of 26 centimeters in 24 hours. With the alert level set at 6 meters, the station is still 2.27 meters below this threshold. Over the course of a year, the level remains 1.57 meters lower than that recorded at the same time in 2025.
In Simenti, the situation is relatively stable. The water level remains at 5.40 meters, unchanged over the past 24 hours. It is 7.60 meters below the alert level of 13 meters. Compared to September 22, 2025, a decrease of 5.20 meters has been recorded.
In Gouloumbou, however, the water level has fallen slightly. It dropped from 6.51 to 6.38 meters, a decrease of 13 centimeters in 24 hours. This station remains well below its alert level of 12 meters. Compared to the same period in 2025, the water level has decreased by 16 centimeters.
The data available for some other measurement points remains incomplete. In particular, the daily water levels had not yet been received for the Diaguiri, Thiokoye, and Niokolokoba stations at the time the bulletin was prepared.
The summary table thus confirms an increase of 26 centimeters in Kédougou and Mako, stability in Simenti and a decrease of 13 centimeters in Gouloumbou.
For the time being, the levels recorded at the various stations remain below the alert levels indicated in the bulletin. Hydrological monitoring nevertheless remains necessary, particularly given that levels can change rapidly depending on rainfall and upstream inputs.
