Strike by the Trade Union Front for the Defense of Labor: Public, private and informal sectors, all at a standstill on October 21, 22, and 23, 2026

Grève du Front syndical de défense du travail : Public, privé et informel, tous à l'arrêt les 21, 22, et 23 octobre 2026

Faced with the inaction of the State, the Trade Union Front for the Defense of Labor (FSDT), determined to continue the fight to the end under the slogan: "Work, Dignity, Social Justice for a more just Senegal", has resolved to observe a general strike on October 21, 22 and 23, 2026 to continue to demand the full application of the agreements.

According to union representatives, all activities will come to a standstill in the public, private, and informal sectors. Referring to the Labor Code, with its four-year fixed-term contracts, which they consider synonymous with "precariousness," they denounce "a disastrous situation with thousands of workers kept in uncertainty, no future prospects, and a sacrificed generation of young people."

He continued: "It's hell with the social security code: IPS, IPRES, CSS: 100 billion FCFA in state arrears. Enough is enough!" He then denounced the non-payment of state contributions, the risk to workers' pensions, the opaque and politicized management, and the seizure of reserves.

For the FSDT, another Senegal of work is possible, with strong workers for a fairer society, social security for today and tomorrow, and sustainable jobs for future generations.

The union members, who believe that "united we will prevail," are demanding "our rights, therefore our future," for "decent work and social security for all." They remind everyone that "work is not a commodity."

The Front demands: the revision of the 4-year fixed-term contract and better governance of the IPS; tripartism and the application of ILO Convention 144 for Ipres/Css; the reinstatement of unfairly dismissed workers; the housing allowance (3D) (health, universities, private education, etc.); retirement at 65; the restoration of the Rts establishment agreement; respect for the commitments of the social pact; the cessation of the abusive distributions of DIPA which is killing thousands of jobs at CSS/Richard Toll.
