Keur Mbaye Fall : Une Togolaise voulait faire revenir ses règles avec un tutoriel sur TikTok et finit en prison
JN, a 35-year-old Togolese national residing in Keur Mbaye Fall, was sent to prison by the Pikine-Guédiawaye court for having an abortion. She had attempted to terminate her pregnancy using a product purchased on TikTok.
According to the findings of the investigation conducted by the Industrial Free Zone brigade, JN, worried about the delay in her menstrual cycle following sexual intercourse in May 2026, consulted a tutorial on TikTok, which explains how to make a potion supposed to "trigger menstruation".
But her period did not return after ingesting the beverage. On the contrary, over the weeks, she experienced severe lower abdominal pain to the point that she finally went to the Mbao health district, accompanied by her cousin.
On site, the on-call team became suspicious upon seeing the patient carrying a bag of medication and exhibiting unusual symptoms. They alerted the obstetrician-gynecologist and head physician of the department. The ordered pelvic ultrasound revealed the presence of intracavitary remnants measuring nearly 17 mm, indicating an incomplete clandestine abortion.
Considering the medical and legal situation, the chief physician contacted the gendarmerie brigade of the Mbao Industrial Free Zone, whose officers proceeded to arrest JN.
When questioned, she denied any intention of terminating a pregnancy, claiming she was simply trying to regulate her cycle using a recipe she found on TikTok. This line of defense failed to convince investigators, given the medical findings.
On September 24, at the end of her custody, she was brought before the public prosecutor of Pikine-Guédiawaye who placed her under a detention order for abortion.
