Richard-Toll: A three-year-old child drowns in a canal

A tragedy occurred on Monday, September 21, 2026 in Richard-Toll, where a three-year-old child lost his life by drowning in the CSS canal, near the Campement district.

According to information gathered by Seneweb, the young A. DIAKHATE, aged three (03), was last seen by his father around 11 a.m. on the day of the tragedy.

Shortly after the disappearance, shoes were spotted floating on the surface of the canal. Alerted, neighbors went to the scene to try to find the child, but their search was unsuccessful.

It wasn't until around 4 p.m. that the increasingly worried father went to the police station to report his son missing. He then contacted the fire brigade to request their assistance.

The discovery of the body

Around 5:30 p.m., the Richard-Toll police station was informed by firefighters that a drowning had just occurred in the CSS canal in Campement. Upon arrival, officers confirmed that the child's body had already been recovered by firefighters, following a search initiated after the father reported the incident.

The external examination of the body revealed no apparent signs of injury or violence.

After the completion of the usual formalities, the body was transported to the morgue of the Public Health Establishment (EPS) of Richard-Toll, following a requisition dated September 21, 2026, addressed to the doctor on duty in order to determine the exact causes of death.

The certificate of cause of death, drawn up by Doctor BS, a general practitioner working at the EPS of Richard-Toll, concluded that it was "a violent death by drowning".

The Public Prosecutor at the High Court of Saint-Louis, Baye Thiam, has been informed of this case. An investigation has been opened to determine the exact circumstances that led to the young child's death.
