Salémata : Dakatély coupé du reste du département par les eaux.
The situation is becoming critical in Dakatély, in the Salémata department. The town is now cut off from the rest of the department following heavy rains over the past 24 hours. The cause of this isolation is the Diougol stream, which overflowed its banks due to the torrential downpours. The floodwaters have inundated the passage, making all travel between Dakatély and other parts of the department impossible. No vehicles can cross the area. Even pedestrians are forced to turn back, leaving the residents in a state of uncertainty and distress.
Mamadou Wagué is a local resident. “We are completely blocked. Since the stream overflowed its banks, no one can get through. Vehicles are turning back, and even people who want to cross are forced to turn back. We no longer know how to reach Salémata.”
Fatoumata Diallo is the president of a women's group: "We are very concerned because we don't know how long this situation will last. For the sick, pregnant women, or those who need to travel for urgent needs, it's really difficult. We ask the authorities to find a solution quickly."
In Dakatély, residents live at the mercy of the waters, fearing that their isolation will continue. This situation serves as yet another reminder of the vulnerability of certain areas in Salémata to heavy rainfall and the lack of infrastructure to ensure safe crossings of waterways.
