Saly : course-poursuite, tirs de sommation… la chute du Français et de son acolyte
On September 10, the Saly police station referred two men arrested after a chase in Saly Golf to the public prosecutor. They are Frenchman JG Thibaut, 38, and Comorian GB Charaf, 37. According to Libération, they are being prosecuted for conspiracy, possession of drugs, possession of a firearm without a permit, counterfeiting currency, and resisting arrest.
The incident dates back to September 5th. Around 6:30 a.m., patrolling police officers heard "a noise resembling a gunshot" near the nursery fields, close to the Saly Golf Course. Upon arrival, the officers spotted a white SUV preparing to leave the area. Despite repeated warnings, the driver "refused to comply," forcing the officers to fire two warning shots, according to the daily newspaper. The vehicle was eventually stopped near the Rhino Hotel. A search of the interior revealed a firearm, a gram of cocaine, and bundles of counterfeit US dollars.
When questioned by investigators, Thibaut maintained that he had gone to the golf course to "show his accomplice how to use the weapon in question" during a test session. Regarding the counterfeit bills, he claimed they were paper intended for making video clips. As for the Comorian man, he rejected the accusations and refuted his teammate's statements, the newspaper reports.
The search of the Frenchman's home in La Somone resulted in the seizure of four rounds of ammunition, 194 $1,000 bills, and 100 counterfeit $100 bills, the same source added. The Colt handgun, the drugs, the Ford Explorer vehicle, and the counterfeit bills were placed under seal.
